The Virginia Coast Reserve Exmore is a protected nature reserve located in the town of Exmore on the Virginia coast. The reserve protects an area of 8.8 square miles and includes salt marshes, tidewater forest, estuarine and coastal habitats, and rocky headlands. It is home to a variety of wildlife, including bald eagles, ospreys, and foxes. The preserve is open to the public and features walking trails, a nature center, and an observation tower. The nature center offers exhibits on the ecology of Parramore Island and nearby marshes, as well as programs on environmental education and conservation. The observation tower provides views of the surrounding area.

The Cape Charles Historic District comprises a well-preserved stretch of the Eastern Shore's coastal towns. The district includes the town of Exmore, which was founded in 1884 by English emigrants and became a major maritime center and tobacco port. The town's architecture reflects the many different periods and styles of the 18th and 19th centuries. Prominent buildings include the town hall (built in 1740), the Masonic lodge (1785), and the Exmore Academy (1819). The district also contains a number of notable residences, including the John Witherspoon Inn (c. 1787), home of General Washington during his stay on the Eastern Shore in 1790, and the Governor Dunmore House (c. 1780), now a museum operated by the State of Virginia.

The Cape Charles Natural Area Preserve is located on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The preserve is a coastal landscape that stretches from the mainland in the west to Bodie Island in the east. The Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge Exmore is one of 23 refugees in Virginia. The Refuge was established in 1943 and encompasses 1,767 acres. The refuge is located just outside of the town of Exmore on Chincoteague Island. The refuge offers visitors access to wildlife, including the famed Assateague horses that were originally brought over from England by the colonists. The refuge is also home to a variety of bird species, including the bald eagle, osprey, and red-tailed hawk. Visitors can explore the refuge by hiking or biking through natural areas or taking a guided tour through one of the visitor centers.
